The Port of Brussels is fighting against climate change!
The Port of Brussels is a public interest organisation dependent on the Brussels-Capital Region. It plays a leading role for Brussels and the people of Brussels in fields as varied as the economy and employment, the environment, mobility, or the prevention of floods.
2018 was a year rich in initiatives for the protection of the environment:
- As a regional organisation serving the citizens, the Port also wishes to make a contribution to the effort.
- At the beginning of September, a waste trap was installed on the canal near the Pont des Armateurs, the result of a good collaboration with Audi Brussels and Recycled Island Foundation. This installation, officially called ‘litter trap’, allows waste to be collected before it reaches the sea.
- A month later, it was a collaboration with Brussels Mobility that bore fruit, with the inauguration of a new salt deposit along the waterway on a piece of land at the Port. An ideal location that allows carrying salt by barge rather than numerous trucks.
- In December, the Port of Brussels became the first Belgian Port to be labelled CO2 neutral for all its buildings. This was a great reward following an action plan implemented in recent years by the Port to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
