Eurochild: putting children at the heart of policymaking!

2017 saw two breakthroughs in the political rhetoric at EU level which can create a favourable environment for investing in children.

The first is the European Pillar of Social Rights which was proclaimed by leaders of the Council, Parliament and Commission
in November 2017. It sets 20 principles to drive social convergence upwards across the EU. Protecting children from poverty and promoting childcare is principle 11.

The second comes from the European Parliament. In a video address to the Eurochild joint event with UNICEF on Universal Children’s Day, President Tajani committed to organise an annual event in the Plenary together with children and carry out a stocktaking of the Parliament’s efforts to protect children’s rights.

“In 2018 we need to ensure these commitments don’t remain empty promises,” stated Norah Gibbons, Eurochild President and Jana Hainsworth, Eurochild Secretary-General in the 2017 Eurochild Annual Report.

Eurochild is a network of organisations working with and for children throughout Europe, striving for a society that respects the rights of children.
Eurochild influences policies, builds internal capacities, facilitates mutual learning and exchanges practice and research.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is the foundation of all their work.

Eurochild has 165 members spanning 33 countries. 21 of these members are National Partner Networks, representing over 2,000 children’s rights organisations in total.

Happy Birthday, Child Focus!

Child Focus was born 20 years ago on March 31, 1998.
Over the past years, the foundation has handled no less than 67,913 cases including 21,360 fugues, 6,003 international parental abductions, 10,488 disappearances of unaccompanied foreign minors, 468 abductions by a known third and 55 abductions or attempts by an unknown third party.

In addition to the treatment of 23,767 reports of suspected child pornography, Child Focus intervened 1,380 times in cases of sexual exploitation of minors.

Today, the Belgian organisation remains vigorously active in the fight against disappearance and sexual exploitation in cooperation with the police, the judiciary and the welfare sector.

“The real challenge remains to eradicate the disappearances and the sexual exploitation in the world,” said Heidi De Pauw, Director-General for Child Focus. That explains why, in the years to come, Child Focus will focus more than ever on the prevention of these phenomena through prevention and awareness actions.

The communication agency Page in extremis wishes a happy anniversary to the Belgian association.

In 2006, Page in extremis had started to collaborate with Child Focus. During many years, the creative team developed various publications and annual reports in close collaboration with the Child Focus’ communication team, and in particular with two exceptional people, Maryse Rolland and Daniel Cornelis.

In 2012, the communication agency updated the visual identity of the association and defined with Dirk Depover, Chief Communication Officer, all the rules for using the various visual components of the Child Focus identity within the framework of a valuable and easy-to-use graphic chart.

Thus, we can say in a certain way that this long-term collaboration marked the DNA of the communication agency.
Page in extremis is very proud and honoured to had had the chance to contribute to a piece of the story of Child Focus.

Based in Brussels, the communication agency can help you define the essence of your brand and formulate its differences in a very positive relationship with its environment and all its stakeholders.

“The economy on both sides of the Atlantic has been growing steadily for the past year. The EU and US are each other’s most important markets and together support 15 million jobs. The transatlantic relationship, however, is founded on more than just numbers” stated Susan Danger, CEO, AmCham EU.

The lighting industry in the spotlight!

“In 2017 the regulatory environment for Europe’s lighting industry has continued to evolve, presenting both new opportunities as well as new obligations” state Ourania Georgoutsakou,  in the 2017 LightingEurope Annual Report.

The Secretary-General of the European Association continues by adding: “LightingEurope’s mission is to liaise with European decision-makers to shape a positive environment that stimulates innovation and growth for Europe’s lighting industry”.

2017 marks five years since LightingEurope was formed from the merger of CELMA and ELC. This amalgamation was a logical progression of several years of work by both former associations to arrive at a single industry position and to have a stronger voice in Brussels.

LightingEurope represents the lighting industry in Europe. The association is the voice of more than 1000 lighting companies who employ more than 100000 people over Europe.

Page in extremis is delighted to have participated in the creative development and the graphical production of the 2017 Annual Report.

The result is a stunning publication made within an intimate creative dialogue framework involving the Belgian communication agency’s creative team and the LightingEurope communication team.

A reminder to tackle child poverty!

While the EU has improved performance on its economic indices, more than 1 in 4 children continue to be at risk of child poverty or social exclusion. The European Semester, which is the EU’s annual cycle of economic policy coordination, did not make any recommendations to reduce child poverty in the EU Member States. That is a worrying tendency.

Eurochild’s latest yearly report on the 2017 European Semester details the situation of child poverty and children’s rights in 18 EU countries.

The report entitled “Investing in children in the era of social rights”, offers alternative recommendations specific to each country to encourage EU Member States to invest in children.

“We encourage EU Member States to make economic policies work for children and for the Commission to take forward its social analysis into action”, states Jana Hainsworth, Secretary General, Eurochild.

Eurochild’s report brings together the assessments of 22 contributors from 18 EU Member States.

The communication agency, Page in extremis is proud to have participated in the creative development and the graphical production of the publication.

Global Lighting Association Releases Strategic Roadmap of the Lighting Industry

With the advent of high-quality LEDs and intelligent lighting systems, coupled with the discovery of a third photo-receptor in the human eye, the value of lighting is moving from energy efficiency to the broader spectrum of quality of life and improved well-being.

The challenges confronting the lighting industry are digitalization, new applications of intelligent lighting systems and the increasing demand for buildings supporting human health, well-being and productivity.
Hence there is a need to move from energy efficiency as the principal driver of lighting technology towards a combined approach which adds value to society through Lighting for health and well-being.

This transition requires new paradigms for all stakeholders - the industry, customers and users. It is particularly so for governments and regulators who need to view the capabilities and benefits of lighting within this broader context.

The Strategic Roadmap of the Global Lighting Industry charts these developments and draws out significant implications for lighting users, for the lighting industry, and for regulators and governments.

Page in extremis is delighted to have participated in the creative development and the graphical production of the publication.

The result is a stunning publication made within an intimate creative dialogue framework involving the Belgian communication agency’s creative team and the Global Lighting Industry communication team.

Europe remains among the most attractive long-term places in the world for business

In a world of perpetual change, one truss of continuity is the deep integration of Europe and the United States.

It is Europe’s size and wealth, depth in human capital, and respect for the rule of law, among other attributes, which makes the region a natural partner of the United States.

The post-war economic integration of the European Union is one of the greatest triumphs of the past 65 years. At the core of Europe’s peace, reconciliation and prosperity are the fact that no other region in the world has successfully integrated and grown as a single entity like the EU over the past half-century.

The Case for Investing in Europe 2017, written by Joseph Quinlan, Senior Fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations, Johns Hopkins University, shows that Europe is still the world’s largest economy and continues to offer tremendous investment opportunities for American business.

Page in extremis is delighted to have participated in the creative development and the graphical production of the publication.

First launched in 2009 by ACI EUROPE, Airport Carbon Accreditation has established itself as the authoritative industry standard for certifying carbon management at airports.

Airport Carbon Accreditation provides airports with a common framework for active carbon management with measurable goal-posts.

The programme is aimed at innovative airports and strives to allow the airport industry to reduce its environmental footprint, to benefit from increased efficiency through lowered CO2 emissions, shared expertise and knowledge exchange, as well as better communication of the results.

Following the last edition of the Airport Carbon Accreditation Brochure: “as of September 2017, there are 118 European airports accredited at one of the four available levels of certification; these airports welcome 65.4% of air passenger traffic in Europe”.

ACI EUROPE is the voice of Europe’s airports, representing over 450 airports in 44 European countries. The members of the association handle 90% of commercial air traffic in Europe.

The communication agency Page in extremis signs the update of the brochure.

Promoting your organisation in multiple media, a strategy for success!

Nowadays, it’s essential to deliver your message on multiple channels for your audience.

Considering the amount of digital information, including email, video, mobile and social, print magazines are an offline component that offers an alternative way to connect, and gives readers a satisfaction different from online.

Magazines stand out in a competitive market of branded content dominated by digital. Global organisations like the World Customs Organisation (WCO) see print magazines as a vehicle to reinforce their brand awareness.

In fact, it is nonsense to create a competition between the digital communication and the print. Both present different advantages depending on the part of the audience you are targeting.

Magazines offer another road to connect with stakeholders in a meaningful way. They engage full-circle. They encourage dialogue in multiple spaces with QR codes to scan, custom short URLs that drive readers online to explore more content.

In close collaboration with the WCO communication team, the magazine “WCO news” is designed and produced by the communication agency, Page in extremis.

Located in Brussels, the communication agency has extended experience in the translation of specific communication needs into effective communication media.

Page in extremis is a communication partner who offers you specialised services going from the creation of corporate and institutional brands to the development of digital and classic media.

A free service to improve your circularity

IRISPHERE runs industrial ecology on a city scale. Industrial ecology takes its cue from natural ecosystems to reorganise economic activities and the flow management for those economic activities.

The starting point is setting up an industrial symbiosis between companies, simultaneously improving those companies’ bottom line and environmental performance.

IRISPHERE receives support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Brussels-Capital Region, and provides a free service to improve your company’s circularity.

Coordinated by citydev.brussels, the IRISPHERE programme wants to boost the development of the circular economy in the Brussels-Capital Region.

A broad consortium of Brussels actors who are circular economy pioneers led the IRISPHERE programme.

The ambition of the network is twofold: to guide Brussels companies to improve materials cycles and to reinforce cooperation between firms on the regional level.

The actors of the consortium are citydev.brussels, EcoRes, Lateral Thinking Factory, Greenloop, BECI, La Ferme Nos Pilifs, Bruxelles Environnement, Bruxelles-Propreté, the Port of Brussels, the Communauté Portuaire Bruxelloise, atrium.brussels, and greentech.brussels by impulse.brussels.

The large consortium of Brussels actors who lead the programme has entrusted the communication agency, Page in extremis with the mission to accompany IRISPHERE in their communication activities.

Nowadays, airports around the world work collectively to decrease their local environmental impact through the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme. The objective of the programme is to reduce and ultimately neutralise airports’ carbon footprint.

Every year, Airport Carbon Accreditation releases an Annual Report, providing all the key figures from the previous 12 months, including the number of airports accredited, the collective reduction achieved and cases studies detailing some of the innovative and original ways that airports have achieved their accreditation.

The last Annual Report was diffused in mid-June at the ACI EUROPE Annual Assembly, Congress & Exhibition.

Based in Brussels, ACI EUROPE represents 500 airports in 45 European countries. In 2016, the ACI EUROPE members facilitate over 90% of commercial air traffic in Europe: 2 billion passengers, 20 million tonnes of freight and 23.7 million aircraft movements.
These airports contribute to the employment of 12.3 million people, generating €675 billion each year (4.1%) of GDP in Europe.

The communication agency, Page in extremis is delighted to have participated in the creative development and the graphical production of the Annual Report.

Page in extremis has extensive expertise in communication with sensitive and environmental issues. The communication agency creates and refreshes human-centred brands and produces percussive digital and classic media.
