How is the private employment industry making a difference in the new world of work?

The private employment industry believes in “social innovation” as the way forward.
Social innovation is defined as the implementation of new solutions for working, learning and social protection for the benefit of workers, employers and society in general.
The World Employment Confederation’s members have developed a map detailing the goals and conditions of social innovation, suggesting some examples of potential actions, identifying which stakeholders the industry should work with as well as outlining the benefits and risks for the sector.

The social innovations stories, the WEC online platform presents about 30 cases studies. Find out through concrete cases how the private employment industry is making a difference in the new world of work by implementing new ways of working, learning and providing social protection.

All around the world, WEC members are implementing new ways of working, learning and providing social protection. Check out what is happening in specific countries!

As labour markets enablers, the World Employment Confederation-Europe and its members believe that they have a leadership role to play in building such future proof labour markets.

The WEC online platform of social innovation stories is the result of the creative dialogue between the WEC communication team and the Communication agency Page in extremis.

Page in extremis builds brands and strengthens the reputation of leading organisations, European associations, and global corporations.

3 WEC policy recommendations to build a future of work fair and decent!

As the International Labour Organisation (ILO) aligns its mandate to the 21st century, the time is right to secure the best labour market support that individuals can get in finding productive and quality work.

The World Employment Confederation (WEC), the global representative body for private employment services, makes three policy recommendations to build a future of work that is fair and decent for diverse forms of work:

A) Realise agency workers’ access to fundamental rights, collective bargaining and decent work through a regulatory framework that ensures quality labour market allocation and matching.

B) Dedicate resources and programmes to research and promote effective cooperation between public and private employment services.

C) No Future of Work without Social Innovation!

The three recommendations are fully detailed  in the brochure entitled “Making Transitions Work” and supplemented by a digital platform where you can find out the inspiration for futureproof labour markets: https://www.socialinnovationstories.org/

The brochure and the online database of social innovation stories are both the result of the creative dialogue between the WEC communication team and the Communication agency Page in extremis.

Explore the universe of Europe’s Food and Drink SMEs

SMEs represents 99% of all businesses in the EU. In the past five years, they have created 85% of new jobs and provided two-thirds of total private sector employment.

During the networking event named “Small Scale, Big Impact” and organised by FoodDrinkEurope, Phil Hogan, the European Commissioner for Agriculture & Rural Development, stated: “I firmly believe that our food and drink SMEs epitomise so much of what is great about European business”.

There are 289,000 food and drink companies in Europe; 9 in 10 are Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). They are present in every region and stand for both tradition and innovation in our industry.

These companies produce a vast range of food and drink products, satisfying the diverse and continuously changing needs of Europe’s 500 million consumers and a multitude of other customers worldwide.

Food and drink SMEs employ local workforces – 2.8 million workers in total. They source their raw materials mostly from Europe. This makes them essential actors in our economy and a key component of Europe’s food and drink sector, which is the EU’s largest manufacturing industry and globally ranks as the largest exporter of food and drink products.

Do you want to know more about Europe’s Food and Drink SMEs? Browse through the web platform developed by FoodDrinkEurope!

FoodDrinkEurope’s permanent secretariat, based in Brussels, maintains close contacts with European and international institutions and is a significant partner in consultations on all issues affecting Europe’s food and drink industry.

The secretariat coordinates the work of more than 700 experts around four themes: food and consumer policy (food safety and science, nutrition and health), environmental sustainability and competitiveness.

FoodDrinkEurope’s mission is to facilitate the development of an environment in which all European food and drink companies can meet the needs of consumers and society while competing effectively for sustainable growth.

The web platform is the result of an intimate dialogue associating the FoodDrinkEurope’s communication team with the creative digital unit of the communication agency, Page in extremis.

« Stories from our work on the ground » is the title of the new digital publication of UNEP in Europe.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) established in 1972, is the voice for the environment within the United Nations system. UNEP acts as a catalyst, advocate, educator and facilitator to promote the wise use and sustainable development of the global environment.

UNEP address these by working on seven priority work areas: Climate Change, Disasters and Conflicts, Ecosystems Management, Environmental Governance, Chemicals and Waste, Resource Efficiency, and Environment Under Review.

The digital publication contains a snapshot into each of UNEP work areas through the eyes of their partners and beneficiaries, relying on outcomes from where they matter most.

A summary printed version of the digital publication exists in English and Russian.

The online publication is hosted on the web platform Unepineurope.org

Unepineurope.org is a hub for profiling what the UNEP is doing on the ground, highlighting work with partners, and informing stakeholders.

The digital platform allows disseminating the monthly E-Newsletter summarising the work that UNEP is delivering in the regions or from the regions.
